Language Lab

In our Language Lab in the heart of Barcelona we offer a wide range of free language classes for members of our organisation. Our membership for those who want to follow the classes is only 10 euros per month! Please find all information below, including the link to become a member.

What can you expect?

  • Voluntary, enthusiastic teachers, some experienced and some in the beginning phase of their teaching career
  • Learning materials, but please bring your own writing materials or laptop to keep notes etc.
  • A great atmosphere in our Cultural Center, where you will meet people from all over the world
  • To make an impact: your contribution as a member is directly used for our projects in Spain and Greece.

Start of new classes: July 2021.

We are currently teaching fully online but with some in-person language exchange activities.

A great way to learn new languages while also getting to know new people from different countries and cultures!

Integration and community building through our classes

While for instance the Spanish classes are given by locals, many of the other classes are given by refugees or migrants who have arrived in Barcelona. Through teaching, they can gain professional teaching experience in a foreign language, feel empowered and become independent.

Free participation for migrants in difficult situations

If you are a migrant in Barcelona and you don’t have any financial means to pay for our membership (and thus the classes), there is a possibility to join our classes for free. If you think you fall under this category, please send us an email to languages@openculturalcenter.org to see what we can do for you!

How to start?

Easy! After becoming a member, you fill a short form to also sign up for our language classes. After that, we will inform you about your first class. See you there!

How do we teach?

We use two main tools to teach our classes and grow our language-exchange community:

  • Slack: to talk to other students, with teachers, ask questions between classes and find other useful information.
  • Google Meets: to have the online classes and be in direct contact with your teachers and fellow students.

At the same time, we organise in-person language exchange events, for instance in a park or at our center, and you can also ask other language learners to join you in an improvised language exchange!
