Our presence at St. George’s Day (Sant Jordi)

Just like last year we will be participating at Sant Jordi, the famous holiday that combines World Book Day and Valentine’s Day! On this day, it is custom for couples to exchange gifts: the men receive a book and the women receive a rose. However, this has developed over time, so both men and women can receive books and roses.

We will have several stands throughout the city where we will sell roses and our wonderful book. You can find us at the following locations:

La Rambla
Pg Lluis companys 1
Rbla poblenou 30
Av Roma 16
C vilamari 61
Av Roma 130
Av Roma 152
Av Roma 132
St Joan 63
Carrer Arcs 1
Rbla poblenou 36
Av portal del angel 1
Rambla Catalunya 116

The funds raised with selling roses and books are used to finance our projects in Greece for refugees.

We have worked together with Self Packaging, a shipping company that helped us with making the box displays for the books! Their website can be found here.

Some more background information:

In Catalonia, Diada de Sant Jordi is also known as El Dia de la Rosa (The Day of the Rose) or El Dia del Llibre (The Day of the Book). Among roses, many piles of books are for sale in Catalan streets (1.5m books sold in 2015). The story of Sant Jordi is the same as the one that is known worldwide. Saint George was a hero – he saved a beautiful Princess who was about to come to a sticky end at the hands of a dragon who had been terrorising a village. There are various versions of the story but these facts always remain the same. Sant Jordi is the Patron Saint of Catalunya and his tale is well-known throughout the city.
